World Oyster Opening Championship - Craobhchomórtas Domhanda Oscailt Oisrí
We are proud host to the World Oyster Opening Championship.
Each year hundreds of competitors from around the world vie for a place in this prestigious competition. The winners from each country, with enthusiastic supporters in tow, travel to the city of Galway, in the West of Ireland to compete for the world title. The new champion is Michael Moran - now Irish Oyster Opening Champion, European Oyster Opening Champion AND World Oyster Opening Champion 2012.
Anyone can eat oysters but they must first be opened, or shucked (oyster shucking as our friends in the US would say), and oyster opening or shucking can be a difficult task. Come and witness it for yourself.
18 countries were entered in the 2012 World Oyster Opening Championship and a sincere thank you to everyone involved in making the 58th festival an unforgettable one! From our competitors in the National Championship to the those in the World Championship that travelled from every side of the globe to be a part of it. Our guests and visitors to our staff and sponsors who worked tirelessy together to bring last year's festival back to the marquee.
We hope you had a fantastic weekend in 2012 and we look forward to meeting you all again this year!
